How to create your own virtual animal in Scratch

Scratch for Kids is an innovative programming platform that allows young users to freely create and develop their computer science and creative thinking skills. Thanks to its simple interface and powerful tools, Scratch has become popular among children around the world as a means of learning programming and developing creativity.

Step 1: Registration and project selection

  1. Open the Scratch website: Go to the Scratch website in your web browser.
  2. Create an account: If you don’t have an account yet, create one by clicking the “Join Scratch” button.
  3. Create a new project: after logging into your account, click the “Create” button to create a new project.

Step 2: Add the pet to the scene

  • Choose a Sprite: On the right side of the screen, select the “Choose a Sprite” tab and choose the animal you want to use from the already available options or upload your image.
  • Place the animal on the stage: drag the selected sprite onto the stage with the mouse.

Step 3: Programming movements and behaviors

  1. Open the code editor: Click on your pet’s sprite, then select the “Code” tab to open the code editor.
  2. Add Blocks: Using the blocks on the left side of the screen, program your pet’s movements and actions. For example, you can use “When Green Flag Clicked” blocks to start the program and “Move” blocks to change the animal’s position.

Step 4: Testing and Tuning

  • Test your project: Click the green flag button to check how your project is working. You will be able to interact with your pet and check the correctness of its movements.
  • Bug Fixes: If you notice any bugs or glitches, go back to the code editor and make the necessary changes.

Step 5: Publish and Share

  1. Publish the project: after successful testing, click the “File” button in the top menu and select “Save now” to save your project.
  2. Share your project: You can publish your project by clicking the “Share” button and choosing “Share Project” so that other users can view and interact with your pet.
