Join the campaign to collect materials to create trench candles! Trench candles can be very useful for our soldiers in the trenches. They will help illuminate their shelters, dry their clothes, keep warm, or prepare food. Trench candles have properties that can save lives, especially those without electricity or gas supplies. They burn well in open spaces, despite the wind, are not afraid of moisture, and can be inflamed more than once. With their help, you can start a fire even from wet wood. One such candle, placed in a tin can, burns for about three hours.

Trench candles: what do you need to create?

  • Metal can;
  • Corrugated cardboard;
  • Wax;
  • Paraffin.

*Paraffin can be anything – old, dirty, clean, painted, with or without fragrance.

How to make a trench candle?

Cut the cardboard into strips up to 5 cm wide, crossing the corrugated cardboard in the transverse direction.
Twist these strips tightly and insert them into a metal jar that serves as the base for the candle.
Cut the wax into small pieces and melt. If you have both natural and artificial wax, do not mix them. While the wax is melting, stir it to avoid burning, but do not bring it to a boil.
When the wax has completely melted, pour it into a jar with cardboard strips. It is recommended to do this several times, as this approach will increase the burning time of the candle.

Is there a difference between a regular candle and a trench candle?

The difference in the heating area. A trench candle works like a burner; it can provide heat—an ordinary candle only provides light. Plus, regular candles burn out faster – trench candles can shine much longer.

How can you help?

Our IT school GoMother spins trench candles and sends them to crews in need. You can also join and bring our victory closer. We accept metal cans, paraffin residues, and candle residues at the address: Pobeda Avenue 131A. You can also send us what you need by mail:
